Happy thing first!: Wine-tasting class. I suck at continuity - I just realized that I posted a Day One of Happy and a Day Three of Happy, but no Day Two. So, this is Day Two. )

FINAL NEWS (for tonight): I have a Dreamwidth account - I'm apple_pi here as well. In fact, I'm trying crossposting for the first time, tonight, and I have high hopes. I love that I was able to so easily import everything (I never did figure out the way to do it on a Mac for IJ), and also, DW hasn't been blocked at my work, yet, so I can read over here. So, I shall give it a whirl. Feel free to friend me over here, okay? Okay.

A little while ago I stepped out of the bathroom, turned off the light behind me, and turned left to leave my bedroom, reaching out in front of me to swing the bedroom door open (my eyes hadn't adjusted, so it seemed pitch dark). Then I stepped forward - right into the edge of the door. With my face. *eyeroll* It didn't hurt (just a quick "oof!"), but I crunched my glasses and broke the right arm right off. RATS.

It's not fixable - I did a good job - but I've ordered replacement frames from Zenni already and dug out my old, scratched-up glasses. Sigh. So I'll wear these for two weeks, till the new frames arrive... and wear my prescrip sunglasses as much as possible, lol.

Anyway, it's just annoying, but not life-shattering. I just felt like whining, I guess. :-)

ION, The Pi Family is headed out of town this afternoon, so I will be offline for a couple days. See you on the flip side!

So, I love (to make scoffing noises at) Jeremy Clarkson. And I - obviously - lust for Richard Hammond. I mean, hello. I am but human, etc etc. But I sometimes - occasionally - you know, once in a while - feel that James May is actually my Top Gear soulmate. Although I like to drive fast (mmmm, I luuuuuuuuve to drive fast), I must confess that I just adore James. I love his narrow-eyed looks at the others when they tease him, and his quiet resignation when they refer to him as Captain Slow. I love his smirky little remarks to, well, everyone, and his endless pursuit of information. Also I find it ASBOLUTELY DISTRACTING when he starts babbling about velocity and gravity and equations and calculations and mmmmm.

I know. It's weird. *sigh*

We have a laser pointer. It's primary function is making our cat (Killer - Zed totally ignores it) batshit crazy. Anyway, I was waving it around and attempting to make Killer run headfirst into the wall (what? he sheds all over my clothes totally on purpose, paybacks are necessary, I tell you), but after a while I wore him out (he leaps about four feet into the air, pursuing that little red dot up the walls, it's AWESOME but certainly tiring for a nine-month-old kitten), so I put it aside.

A few minutes later, Mr. Pi said "Hey, throw me the, the - thingie." Resisting the obvious joke(s), I tossed the laser pointer to him. After he discovered for himself that Killer mostly just wanted to lie there and look at the little red dot, he started messing with the laser pointer. Now, there's a little dial you can turn at the front of the thingie to change the shape of the projection: a dot, a line, an arrow, a dollar sign, and a star.

(Okay, this is a long build-up for a very small punchline, I apologize in advance.)

So Mr. Pi is twisting the dial and looking at each shape on the opposite wall ("What's that?" "I dunno, just a line, I guess?") and the cat is lying in the middle of the floor staring at Mr. Pi (who is his god, by the way). I stop paying attention and look at the computer (where I'm watching Ellen DeGeneres talk to a woman from Austin Texas named Gladys, who says the immortal words "Honey, I love Jesus, but... I drink a little") and Mr. Pi says "Look! Look," so I look up.

Mr. Pi is aiming the laser pointer at Killer the Kitten's forehead, right between his little eyes.

"What?" I say.

"It's the arrow," Mr. Pi says, and I look, and sure enough, there's a hollow arrow shape being projected onto the kitty's forehead. "He's the last Airbender."

*cue rimshot*

...Yeah, I don't know, but I'm still giggling, so - hey. Whatever, IT'S A GOOD STORY, I SWEAR.

1. It has just occurred to me that a newly free David Hewlett, set loose in Vancouver, might start appearing on other shows - like, oh, say... PSYCH? Would that not be the most awesome thing that ever happened to goofy detective shows? Answer: Yes. Yes it would.

2. I am rewatching the Psych from two weeks ago (Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing) and wow. I mean, seriously - really? There is no subtext, only TEXT. In BIG FLASHING NEON LIGHTS. For serious. AWESOME. Spoiler alert! )

In conclusion: The only thing that could make this show better is David Hewlett. Preferably shirtless, but I'm willing to compromise with a tight t-shirt.

You guys are so awesome. Seriously, thank you for your sympathy over my effed-up glasses, and for the great ideas on replacing/repairing them. I've decided to go ahead and get my eyes checked (it has been more than two years since my last eye exam), then probably order online, using Glassy Eyes as a starting point.

In the meantime, I've been alternating wearing my effed-up glasses and wearing some old (but still serviceable) contacts. So far it's keeping me going.

Aaaand, now I have to go consider creating my own Inventory of a Babe (aka Dr. M. Rodney McKay, PhD, PhD), and staring at [info]tex's version for inspiration. :-) (Thanks, [info]tex!)

Thanks to whichever of you crazy sweethearts nominated me for the McShep awards! I have been so much less prolific lately than before, that it's nice to know some of the old(er) stories, as well as the increasingly rare, more recent rambles, are still fun to read for folks. Seriously, thank you thank you thank you!

And I always get excited by McShep awards anyway, since it means I'll have, like, an instant reclist on my computer in a very short time. :-)

And now for something completely different: my glasses are all effed up, so I must tell the long, sad story of how I became the world's whiniest porn writer. )

Cut for five-year-old spoilers. )

Okay, my laptop battery is about to die. Here endeth the random jumping up and down.

is... can you play Text Twist (TM OMG) while slightly drunk? Good question. Let's find out. Then I will go watch SGA This Week, which my flist leads me to believe will be better if I'm at least a bit tipsy.

GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES.

In conclusion, I went to my church holiday party ("XMAS FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US" it was billed) and drank lots of wine and ate FANTASTIC chocolate trifle made by a GODDESS OF COOKING and then did the White Elephant gift exchange, which we call Dirty Santa because the gifts have to be recycle, nothing bough new, and I won a gorgeous little tea chest and it is MINE ALL MINE MWAHAHAHAHA. *does not mention the 12 Days of Xmas" wine glasses which were STOLEN by some AWFUL PERSON ARGH*

Hi flist! Happy holidays! Merry Chrimbo! *beatific smile*

Someone requested a password change for my account today. Probably just a mistake, almost certainly no biggie, but it's a little weird, and it makes me a little nervous for the security of my account. Obviously whoever tried this was either (a) mistaken, so no harm, no foul, or (b) frustrated, because they didn't get the e-mail which would let them change my password, because I got it, and I have no intention of changing my password (it is, I think I can say without boasting, a fairly awesome password, as these things go).

But did I mention it's weird? And a little nervous-making? So if something peculiar happens to my account, don't panic. It'll get figured out.

...Now I'm going to go back things up, just in case.

I watched episode 1 of "Merlin" last night and enjoyed it. I can certainly see the potential for slash. I JUST started episode 2, and I was looking at the guest star guy (IMDb tells me it's Will Mellor) and going "Who is that? Who is that?" when suddenly the light bulb over my head lit up and I started laughing hysterically - it's Gaz, from "Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps" ahahaha OH MY GAAAAHD. *collapses* It always throws me to have the (standard U.S.) image of the UK as a teeny little place reinforced by seeing the same actors recycled in wildly different (biZARREly different) pieces. *g*

So, I appear to have accidentally dyed my hair black.

I would post a picture, but I'm typing on Mr. Pi's computer, without a handy-dandy built-in camera, and I'm faaaaaaaaar too lazy to go get an actual camera, take a picture, hook the camera up to the computer, download the picture and post it. ...I'm almost too lazy to TYPE all that - now I'm tired. :-) It doesn't look bad, but it definitely looks different - I've had it very auburn for a couple of months now, so this was a fairly radical change.

In completely different - and slightly less narcissistic - news: November 4th, my teeny post-mortem. )

You guys, I don't even know why I'm getting all verklempt over here - I voted a week and a half ago, and I live in a state so red there's no WAY Obama will get our electoral votes, but. Here I am, reading my flist, refreshing a few news sites obsessively, tearing up over the amazing hope I see everywhere - gaaaaaah. I love all you guys so much. And I really, really, really hope tomorrow is the first day of a new era in America.

*hearts you all so hard*

P.S. Here's my new favorite site: Is Obama President Yet? Earlier it said "No, not yet." Now it says something different. I'm just going to use that as my bellwether, rather than watching the news.

The bad news is that my computer (my darling, wonderful Macbook) won't boot. It just - looks for the hard drive... which isn't there.

The good news is, I have my music on my iPod, and most of the/what little writing I've done lately has been done in Gmail or private LJ posts, so I wouldn't have to carry flash disks back and forth. But... a lot of pictures may be lost, as well as my number one favorite porn video, sigh. I think all the Jeeves and Wooster is backed up, I know the SGA is, but - still. It's my BABY. I'm typing this on Mr. Pi's iBook and it feels so huge and clunky. We're probably going to have to ship my Macbook off to be worked on, waaaah!

Anyway.

The other good news is that I took today off work, and in just a little while (half hour or so), Mr. Pi and I will pick the Pi-lettes up and head to a church retreat at a nearby state park. I know, that doesn't sound like much fun, does it? But when I say "church retreat," you should probably sub in "extended low-key weekend party." Basically, it's three days of sitting around on cabin porches, playing indy folk music on guitars, hiking through the woods, doing a spooky late-night graveyard walk, lounging on the dock of the lake with your feet up on the rails and a good book in your hands, drinking a lot of wine (if that's how you roll, and that's how I roll), and maybe doing a little sketching if you happen to take along your sketchbook.

I am totally planning to enjoy the hell out of myself. :-) ...And I'll see you all on the flip side.

You guysssssss! Because [info]aesc is awesome and she loves us and wants us to be happy (she must!), she made gorgeous, haunting, ethereal, beautiful art which happens to also be a cover for The Paradox of Vision. It's over here and seriously - it's just. *hands* I can't even - I love it. All day I've been clicking back to it and giving silly grins of pleasure. Go and look, because it's beautiful. *hearts*
